First of all thank you to everyone who’s been commenting! I really enjoy hearing from you (yes, even the contraversial ones)! I’ve gotten a few emails asking about the specifics of ballroom competitions…So I’m going to attempt to explain it best I can…
Now I’m not claiming to be some sort of expert on this topic. I’ve only been ballroom dancing since last October. So, the follwing is completely from my own personal experience in the collegiate ballroom world. Read the rest of this entry »

Since Helio took home the ‘Dancing’ trophy, I’ve heard a lot of mixed reactions about the fact that he’s the fourth male in a row to win. There was a lot of hope a girl would take home the trophy for the first time in 4 seasons. Many people have argued that the guys have it easier, and the girls worked harder and therefore were more deserving of the title.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. All last year I constantly argued with my partner about whose role is more difficult. I’ve gone back and forth with this one so many times I’m not even sure where I stand. Read the rest of this entry »

Just watched Dancing with the Stars episode from last night. In less than three hours we’ll finally have our winner. Goodness, I hope Helio wins…

Alright, who’s excited??? I just watched the decision episode of Dancing with the Stars from last Tuesday, and I’ve got to tell ya, I can’t wait to see what happens tonight. The last four semi-finalists all had their ups and downs. I, personally, was sad to see Jennie go. But honestly, her Cha Cha was not as strong as I’d have liked to see for “finals” material.
The real disappointment, is that Marie is still in the running. I’m sorry for those demographics that keep voting her in– she just doesn’t have it. She’s sloppy… yes, she does have great charisma, but when the judges were commending her “hip movement’ I just didn’t see it. Read the rest of this entry »

Most ballroom dancers will agree, there is a frustrating lack of seriousness surrounding our sport. (And yes, it is most definitely a sport.) No matter Latin or Standard, each style of ballroom is a workout in-and-of itself. Competitions require unbelievable stamina, great health, performance, style, glamour and (most importantly) technique. That said, it’s extremely frustrating when other athletes, publics and even the media portrays our sport in a frivolous and superficial manner. Read the rest of this entry »

Dancing with the Stars is my guilty pleasure. It’s like smoking: you know it’s bad for you…but you do it anyway. If you’ve ever danced or watched a legitimate competition, you know as well as I do that Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) is a farce. An entertaining farce, but a farce nonetheless.
I try my best to look at the positives (I’m an optimist through and through). DWTS has elevated ballroom dancing to a Read the rest of this entry »
